CLARITY ON 'MISSING R100 MILLION' ALLEGATION



There had been several allegations on media platforms made against the Department that over one hundred million Rand has gone missing. This one hundred million Rand was supposedly budgeted for renovation of the GD Montshioa Airport in Mahikeng and the Pilanesberg International Airport near Sun City. Therefore, the money being referred to, as having been used for GD Montshioa airport, is actually spent at Pilanesburg International airport but the budget was far less than the figures mentioned. Let me clarify this by indicating the exact amount of money allocated and spent.

118 ILLEGAL TAXIS IMPOUNDED IN MAHIKENG



MMABATHO – The North West Provincial Traffic embarked on Public Transport Operation this past weekend where in total 501 vehicles were stopped and checked in Mafikeng alone. The operations was carried out by 54 officers and of the vehicles stopped, only 78 vehicles were not charged.

A light motor vehicle driver was declared dead on the scene, after an attempted U-turn on the N4 and hit a heavy motor vehicle. The two vehicles were travelling in the same direction when the collision happened.

A Polo Sedan and a minibus have burnt to ashes, following a collision with the back of a truck, making the truck to lose control and collide with a minibus taxi coming in the opposite direction. This was confirmed by the department of Community Safety and Transport Management.

A Brits branch of a national grocery franchise shop was forced to close after and its stand-in manager was charged for contravening COVID-19 protocols. It was reported that the substantive manager, yesterday, received positive test results for Coronavirus and went home to quarantine. However, despite having had contact with almost all staff members, especially the two deputy managers, the shop opened today without those close contacts being caused to self-isolate too. Not even decontamination of the manager's office or shop premises was conducted but they continued on 'business as usual' attitude.

Koster- Over the past couple of weeks, the Department of Community Safety and Transport led by MEC Sello Lehari has embarked on an intensive disinfection and fumigation programme at various taxi ranks and traffic offices across the Bojanala District. The weekly programme, which is also an opportunity to monitor compliance by taxi operators, commuters and the public will now be moving into other districts in the province after the final leg which took place in Kgetleng Municipality this week.

Provincial Inspector Tshepang Masike had stopped the driver whose car was in motion and thought that he was about to stop. But as the 22 year old female officer approached the vehicle, the driver then suddenly sped off and in the process bumped-on the traffic officer pushing her to the side walk-way.

ROAD ACCIDENT KILLS FIVE FOREIGN NATIONALS


On Saturday 16 December 2017 a Toyota Land Cruiser and VW Polo collided head-on, on N14 road between Delareyville and Vryburg. It is alleged that the Land Cruiser was travelling from Vryburg to Delareyville while the Polo was traveling from Delareyville to Vryburg when the two collided and Land Cruiser caught fire. Four (4) occupants in the Polo died instantly at the accident scene and the fifth one died on Sunday 17 December in Joe Morolong Hospital at Vryburg. The deceased are all foreign nationals from Ethopia and between the age of 31 and 54. read more+
