Learners to debate road safety measures

Debates on safety measures geared towards protecting lives of road users is set to be 'lit' and hot when learners from different schools across the Province take to the podium, robustly deliberating on ways and means of how to improve and enhance road safety.

The aim of this exercise is educating and instilling a culture of road safety as well as traffic rules awareness through learner participation in this activity. This way the department is engaging in a deliberate effort to address the underlying problems of road safety, using the; ".... leojwa le sa le metsi" "teach them young" principle .
The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management in partnership with the Road Traffic Management Cooperation (RTMC) and in collaboration with the Department of Education and Sport Development continues, on yearly basis, to conduct this Road Safety Schools Debate Project..
“The Debate project is one of the National flagships program implemented by all the Provinces and culminates in a National Road Safety Debate hosted by the Department of Transport. The debate project targets learners from high schools with a bias to the VTSD areas as well since the categories include rural, urban and disabled groups. The competition starts at the District level as a build up to the Provincial then later, the National Competitions.

Learners and schools participating in the debate projects are acknowledged whereas those who proceed to win, are rewarded with certificates, vouchers and gifts.

MEC, Dr. Motlhabane will address and award these learners for their participation and victory in the competitions.
