MEC Motlhabane condemns taxi violence in Letlhabile and Hebron

North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Dr Mpho Motlhabane condemns taxi violence with strongest terms following the clash between Letlhabile Taxi Association and Hebron Taxi Association in the Madibeng area.

It has been reported that a taxi owner was shot and one driver stabbed both recovering, while a taxi was touched and 10 damaged as a result of the conflict between the two associations.

Motlhabane said taxi operators should desist from resolving problems with violence.

“They must learn the art of engagement, negotiation and conflict resolution because violence will never be the solution to any problem. Taxi industry is a business and not a gang,” said Motlhabane.

“When taxi operators are at logger heads our people are the ones who suffer most because they rely on these taxis to transport them to access social amenities, therefore we cannot allow the situation of this nature.”
The law enforcement authorities are currently monitoring the situation and keeping law and order in the area.
