MEC MOTLHABANE TO HAND OUT SHOVA KALULA BICYCLES IN TWO MAHIKENG VILLAGES
Since 2003 the Department together with the National Department of Transport has embarked on the Shova-Kalula Bicycle Project. This project is an intervention to enhance mobility of learners. MEC Motlhabane will therefore be handing out bicycles to learners of Mococe Secondary, Saane Secondary in Modimola village and Seleje Secondary in Madibe village.

Shova-Kuluva is a low cost transport intervention by government. It comes at no cost to its beneficiaries but it is cost effective and easy to maintain. This intervention is particularly favoured to the learners from Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies, (i.e. VTSD) communities. This is an attempt by the state to redress past inequalities as well as to reduce impediments that inhibited access to education, social and economic opportunities.

The project is also a positive response to ensuring learners have ease of access to education regardless of distances to school. Equally, it is a vehicle to reaching both social and economic opportunities for the rural communities. The main beneficiaries being, particularly learners who reside in rural areas and are faced with a daily task of walking long distances from their respective homes to school.

The criteria for learners to qualify for this intervention is based on; the non-availability of public transport in the particular area, the inability to afford public transportation and the benefiting learners should be walking three to five, (3 - 5) single kilometres daily to and from home to their school.

The MEC will be handing out bicycles to learners from three different schools at two different venues.

Members of the Media are therefore invited to cover this event which will be held as follows:

Date : 05 September 2017
Venue : Mococe Secondary School in Modimola Village
Time : 7:30

Please note: - Learners from Saane Secondary school (also from Modimola Village) will be part of the handing over of bicycles at Mococe Secondary Scool.
Venue : Seleje Secondary School in Madibe Village
Time : 9:00
