MEC Motlhabane Celebrates His Birthday with Head Office Cleaners and Drivers

The Head of the Department Mme Botlhale Mofokeng and Senior Managers at Head Office for Community Safety and Transport Management recently celebrated MEC, Dr Mokgantshang Motlhabane's birthday and wished him a happy birthday that is full of wealth, good health, happiness, compassion and many more blessed years to come.

On his arrival, at his office early morning of Tuesday, 26th September 2017, the MEC was received by a thunderous 'surprise' followed by a welcoming 'happy birthday song'. He was then ushered into his office and only to find birthday decors, snacks, serenading music and birthday cake waiting for him in his boardroom.

The pleasantly humbled MEC said that: “My schedule is always very tight and I sometimes completely forget about my birthday date, that of my wife, kids and family members. But I am thankful that my wife is the one who always remind me about my birthday, and those of others as well as anniversaries. It is quite disappointing since it was only my own grandmother who had a special gift of remembering everyone else's birthday including those of her great grandchildren and grandparent’s birthdays, but unfortunately she didn’t pass that gift to me as I’m not sharp at memorizing birthdays.

MEC Motlhabane further expressed his appreciation to the organisers of the surprise '50th Birthday Celebration who has heeded his call to make him to celebrate his day with special guests, "the Departmental drivers whose responsibility is to transport us and goods to different destinations. Sometimes they do this under unbearable conditions but always make sure that 'we' and the goods arrive safely and on time."

"Cleaners too, have an important role that is often undermined, and they keep our offices clean and maintain healthy and hygienic standards in our buildings all the time".

He continued to advocate that driver’s and the cleaning personnel needs to be considered favourably when the managers deal with performance bonus. He said these are the people that hold no high ranks or positions at work but they are very valuable in our daily lives as they make our jobs much easier and make us to deliver services in time as expected.

Whilst ululations, whistling and chanting deafened the MEC's Boardroom, words of encouragements, expression of appreciations and prayerful renditions made the lunch hour long celebration seem like endless fun fare. Mme Pinkie Moeketsi, Rre Kabelo Koto, Mme Julia 'Phatshimo' Nkareng, Rre Seatlholo Matlhako, Mme Nikiwe Num and HoD Botlhale Mofokeng took turn to lighten further the already vibrant boardroom, much to the delight of the mesmerized MEC.

“I thank all the officials for their heartfelt birthday messages, calls and jovial expressions. I am equally grateful to those who made my day very special by preparing this surprise party for me. I believe, God will bless me with many more years in order to allow me to serve the people of Bokone Bophirima”, said Dr Motlhabane in closing.

Phone and still camera took photos without stopping, video shots and selfies were shot and posted on social media. It was a great celebration and yet an impact to leave a lasting memory to Dr Motlhabane, cleaners, drivers and the department staff in general.
