Mahikeng – Premier of the North West Bushy Maape is deeply saddened by the passing away of Ditsobotla Local Municipality Speaker, Mr. Fikile Jakeni.
The news of his passing was confirmed by his family on Thursday evening, 01 June 2023. He was elected Speaker of Ditsobotla Local Municipality Council through a coalition following the December 2022 By-Elections.
He rose to prominence in the 1990’s as a Congress of South African Students Organisation (COSAS) activist and has occupied several leadership positions in the African National Congress, ANC Youth League as well as South African Municipal Workers Union.
Premier Maape described Mr. Jakeni as a selfless and dedicated public representative. He maintains Mr. Jakeni passes away at the time the provincial government is investing all its energies in finding a permanent solution to a number of administrative and financial challenges confronting the municipality.
“He was going to be of great service in seeing to the success of a number of intervention measures we have developed to stabilize the municipality. He was a hard worker who was dedicated at serving the people of Ditsobotla Local Municipality” Premier Maape said.
Premier Maape has offered his condolences to Mr. Jakeni’s family, friends, colleagues and residents of Ditsobotla Local Municipality and the people of North West.
