North West Public Works and Roads suspends six (6) senior officials...

In an unprecedented move, six managers of the Department of Public Works and Road, North West Province, have been put on suspension on alleged acts of misconduct.

They are: Chief Director District Operation, Kenneth Gill, and senior managers in the districts of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati (Vryburg); Dr Kenneth Kaunda (Potchefstroom) and Bojanala (Rustenburg).

The district managers are Directors: Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi ; Collette Anthony-Chocklingo and Thabo Ndlovu.

Among those also served with letters of between Friday and yesterday (Tues) are Alfred Mafune, Director Roads Planning and Design who is currently Acting Chief Director Road Infrastructure and Mbulelo Tundzi.

Tundzi is Director; Community-based Programmme which deals with coordination of Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)

The suspensions comes hard on the heels of the conclusion of government-commissioned forensic investigation by the private company, Open Waters, which began its probe in December 2014

Its unprecedented that more than one-fifth of the top management team of a department gets suspended simultaneously on more or less a similar alleged acts of misconduct.
The department is of the view that the action taken to date against the five senior managers is part of consequence management aimed at putting in place corrective measures.

The department has also put contingency measures in place to ensure that the suspension of the five does not affect the rendering of service delivery to communities.

The department could neither deny nor confirm if more employees were likely implicated in the forensic report or even speculate if more officials could be suspended following the reports' findings and recommendation.

*Meanwhile, following the suspension of the above the Head of Department (HoD), Mr Pakiso Mothupi, has announced the following acting appointments during the DMC held in Ngaka Modiri Molema Board Room in Mahikeng.

They are:

· Mr Mohlomi Thamae (Acting Chief Director: Roads)

· Mr Johannes Tselane (Acting: Chief Director; Districts Operations)

· Mr Albert De Witte (Acting Manager: Bojanala District)

· Mr Ntogelang Tumelo (Acting District Manager: Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati)

· Mr Owen More (Acting District Manager: Dr Kenneth Kaunda District)

· Mr Sepopo Selemane (Acting Director: Community-based Programmes (EPWP)

Mr Itumeleng Mosiapoa, has been seconded to Departmental Legal Services. He is seconded to the Department of Public Works and Roads by the Office of the Premier from the Department of Finance, Economic Enterprise and Development until end of October 2016.
