North West MEC for the Department of Public Works and Roads; Sempe Elizabeth Mokua has officially declared North West Province a construction site as her departments gets ready to launch road and building projects across the province. The declaration was made during her recent tabling of the department’s budget speech for the 2024/25 Financial Year at the North West Provincial Legislature in Mahikeng. This declaration aims to address the pressing needs for improved roads and public facilities across the province.

MEC Mokua  highlighted the urgency of accelerating construction projects to stimulate economic growth and improve service delivery. She said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to transform the province's infrastructure landscape, which includes significant investments in road construction and maintenance of government buildings.

Her announcement aligns with the provincial government's objectives to create job opportunities and foster development through enhanced infrastructure. This initiative is seen as crucial for addressing the challenges faced by the community and ensuring that the department effectively meet the needs of residents.

"The department is taking a monumental step towards transforming the North West Province and declaring our province a construction site, we are committing to substantial infrastructure upgrades that will drive economic growth and elevate the living standards of our communities, MEC Mokua said.

She indicated that the planned projects will be in all the districts in the province and  by so doing the department have ensured that rural and farming areas are included in the plans so it leaves no one behind.

She emphasised the importance of transparency and community involvement throughout the development process, adding that regular consultations and updates will be provided to ensure that the public remains informed and engaged.

“Speaking of transparency, it must be noted that despite the budget cuts, we are determined to deliver more with the less that we have and that we will not compromise service delivery. My appeal to the members of the community is for them to work together with the department and contractors by not disrupting project. We will avail ourselves for engagements where there are disputes. Let us work together in developing our province", she said.

The declaration of the North West Province as a construction site marks a pivotal moment in its developmental journey. The government's unwavering commitment to infrastructure improvement, economic enhancement, and service delivery will pave the way for a prosperous future for all residents.
