The
Koster to Lichtenburg road in the North West Province has
been under construction since 2008. While there have been
numerous delays which the Department of Public Works, Roads
and Transport(DPWRT) is concerned about, the DPWRT is doing
all it can to speed up the process so that construction and
its inconveniences can be a thing of the past.
Most recently, the DPWRT held meetings with the consultant
and the contractor to agree on terms. The aim of this meeting
was to determine a way forward especially with regard to
the Stop ‘n Go waiting time. The discussion also revolved
around the quality of work has also been undertaken. The
contractor has, in the meantime, been busy with the construction
of widening shoulders on long sections of the road from Lichtenburg
towards Koster.
MEC Mahlakeng Mahlakeng confirmed that he had also visited
the site to urge the contractor to intensify the efforts
in making sure that the road is completed by its deadline.
Currently the contractual completion date of works is 20
March 2011. The contractor is busy with a plan to ensure
that all the Stop ´n Go signals are removed and the
site is safer for a two-way traffic across its length by
15 December 2010.
The contractor, professional team and the Department of Public
Works, Roads and Transport are fully committed to a renewed
effort to ensure that all works are completed to the required
quality standards and at all times maintaining safety on
site for contractors and road users.
