North West

The sixth largest of the nine provinces inSouth Africa covering a total area of 116 320 km2, (approximately 9,5% of South Africa ).

 

As part of South Africa's ongoing environmental reporting programme, the North West Province developed this current provincial SoER, which builds on from a preliminary SoER compiled by the Province in 1995. The main objective of the report is to provide valuable environmental information to support sustainable development in the Province. Other objectives include:

 

·          Informing decision-makers on the current state of the environment of the Province;

 

·          Establishing the provincial information base with regard to current and future environmental trends;

 

·          Indicating environmental trends;

 

·          Identifying gaps in knowledge of the North West Province 's environment and propose recommendations to address these;

 

·          Support management decisions for environmental protection and sustainability;

 

·          Complementing and providing information for the next edition of the national SoER;

 

·          Benchmarking the Province's environmental management practices against international trends; and

 

·          Providing information for environmental education and training for decision-makers and the general public.




 

A report that highlight the conditions of the environment by analysing trends, causes of these change, assessing and interpreting the implications and the impacts of these trends and assessing societal responses to environmental problems in the Province.
