Structure of government
The North West Provincial Legislator administers its region in terms of
the country's constitution which allows it the same degree of autonomy
and responsibility as the other eight provinces.
The Legislature is led by premier Edna Molewa , and comprises an executive
council of 9 members and are known as MEC's(Members of the Executive Council).Each
MEC, the provincial equivalent of a cabinet Minister, is responsible
for at least one portfolio.

In addition, the acting Director General of the North West Province, Mr Solly Bokaba, is responsible for running the public service and daily
administration of the North West, His other responsibility is to establish
an effective administration machinery for the province. THis entails
depth and capacity for fiscal and administrative accountability.
The North West is entitled to make and pass laws relating to all matters
which fall into its jurisdiction such as agriculture, casinos, consumer
protection, cultural affairs, education, health services, local government,
markets, nature conservation, police, provincial media, sport and recreation,
public transport, regional planning, roads, tourism, trade, urban and
rural development, and welfare services.
The Premier is empowered to sign all of these laws.
In terms of the Constitution, all powers, functions and duties are
exercised jointly with Central Government. Although the Provinces have
greater autonomy in some areas, they are still restricted in others
such as policing, local government, and language policy.
Public Finance
The North West has developed its financial administration capacity
systems, and accounting structures are in place to facilitate reporting
of expenditure.
As part of its financial control the Province has a Tender Board to
oversee government police of procurement. The board has been structures
so that it represents business, labor, government, and contains professional
expertise.
The Department of Finance and Economic Affairs has initiated several
new projects including the creating of an Internal Audit Division,
a training and recruitment drive, the emphasizing of the critical roles
of accounting officers and the Treasury, and the establishment of the
establishment of the North West Economic Forum.
Watchwords in the Province's fiscal strategy include belt tightening,
reprioritising expenditure, rationalizing and reorganizing the civil
service, and intergovernmental financial relations.
Administration
The development of a dynamic administration is one of the North West
Provincial Government's main priorities. Key elements of this are Communication,
RDP, Powers and Legislation, the re-orientation of the Civil Service,
and Structures Management.
Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP)
The RDP offers the country opportunity to bring about renewal, peace,
prosperity, and stability. In its efforts to further the aims of
the RDP the North West Provincial Government supports the following
