DEPARTMENTAL SERVICES


INTEGRATED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SERVICES (IEDS)


IEDS seeks to create an enabling environment for the development and growth of sustainable SMMEs and Cooperatives to ensure their contribution to economic growth and job creation in partnership with Stakeholders. It also facilitates radical economic transformation through the establishment and maintenance of effective small business support to ensure contribution to economic growth and job creation. The Department establishes and supports new and existing enterprises across all sectors of the economy to ensure economic growth.

Services:

• Coperatives and Companies registration
• Annual Returns for Cooperatives and Companies
• SMMEs and Cooperatives training on new venture creation by FET colleges
• Access to markets for SMMEs and Cooperatives
• Hold information workshops for SMMEs and Cooperatives
• Conduct Business Mentorship programmes


REGIONAL AND LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Regional and local economic development supports and promotes economic growth and the development of regional and local economies in partnership with key stakeholders, by aligning LED initiatives with government programmes. The unit leads, coordinates, and supports local economic development initiatives to ensure achievement of National and Provincial objectives and policy imperatives

Services:

• Support LED projects through mentorship
• Assesse and intervene in Projects
• Capacity building.


ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

To promote the transformation of economic imbalances by increasing the establishment, support and development of new and existing women, youth and people with disabilities’ owned SMMEs and cooperatives, to ensure increased participation in the mainstream economy.

Services:

• Register Women, Youth and People with Disability enterprises
• Facilitate information dissemination workshops to Enterprises
• Expose enterprises to Flea markets,
• Donate equipment as part of interventions


ECONOMIC PLANNING AND SECTOR DEVELOPMENT

To facilitate economic research and planning processes that will stimulate integrated economic growth for the North West Province through trade and industry development as well as through investment promotion. The Department has a responsibility to achieve faster and sustainable inclusive economic growth in line with the Outcome Based Objectives and in accordance with both the New Growth Path policy and the Provincial Development Plan towards an improved socio-economic life and a better life for all for the people of North West Province.

• Development of economic strategies and research towards an improved socio-economic life and a better life for all


TRADE AND SECTOR DEVELOPMENT

To facilitate the growth and development of economic opportunities within the agro-processing, mining beneficiation, manufacturing, tourism/culture and the green economy sectors

Services:

• Develop business plans for enterprises
• Implement ACT Projects


CONSUMER PROTECTION

The promotion and protection of consumer rights through awareness and effective complaints resolution mechanisms

Services:

• Resolve consumer complaints
• Conduct consumer awareness programmes
• Investigate market practises
• Promoting consumer protection against unscrupulous dealers and businesses through the Consumer Affairs Court


LIQUOR REGULATIONS

Effective and efficient regulation of the liquor industry through compliance monitoring and enforcement.

• Liquor Act compliance monitoring
• Enforcement and awareness
• Liquor Licence applications and issuing of Licences
• Conduct Compliance inspections
• Conduct Awareness campaigns
• Social Responsibility programme
