Within the North West Education Department’s Professional Support and Auxiliary Services Directorate, we have a unit which is responsible for making sure that schools in the province are safe and secure from any criminal activity whilst at the same time providing transportation to the larger disadvantaged learners and poor school communities that have previously been travelling long distances to schools under harsh conditions.
The main objective is to assist learners who walk a round trip of more than 5km from their place of residence to schools as determined by the South African Schools Act.
Since the provision of transport to farm and rural school communities, the number of children who attend schools has improved as travelling long distances to attend schools has been bridged.

The Department of Education has entered into an agreement with the Department of Transport, Roads and Community Safety to assist in identifying service providers to carry children during school days to and from schools along the determined routes around the farms and rural areas.
The Unit aims to achieve its goals by engaging all stake- holders in rendering a sustainable and quality service, promoting lifelong learning opportunities and people’s self-reliance whilst continually contributing towards a democratic society and economic growth.
