Hon. MEC Ndleleni Duma

Department of Sport Arts and Culture

The Honourable MEC, Mr. Ndleleni Duma was born in 1958, at Ikageng Location-Potchefstroom, in the North West Province, where he grew up. He attended his primary education at Lesego Primary School and completed his matriculation with the Joint Matriculation Board in 1981.

He started working for NASCHEM in Potchefstroom as a tester for impact explosives. Between 1982 and 1984 he worked for Kynoch Fertilizers where he was a member of the management team.
Exposed to the undesirable conditions, which the black workers endured in the apartheid South Africa, he was compelled to join politics in 1983, as part of the team that formed the Ikageng Civil Association, which became an affiliate to the UDF in 1985. He served as a regional organizer for the UDF in the Western Transvaal between 1986 and 1990. He became the secretary for the EDC and the North West Provincial Secretary for the African National Congress. He has acquired a Degree in Public Finance and Economic Development with the University of the Western Cape.

He served in the Potchefstroom Constituency as Member of Parliament in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2004, participating in the Trade and Industry, Minerals and Energy Portfolio Committees. Following the outcomes of the national elections in 2004, he was called back to the North West Province and consequently appointed as Member of Executive Council responsible for the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, Environment and Tourism in the North West Province. Following the recent cabinet reshuffling in North West Provincial Legislature, he was appointed the Member of Executive Council responsible for the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.
