The Department of Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs (CATA) through the Directorate Library, Information and Archive Services is introducing Mobile Library Srvice to service the rural and farm areas of the North West Province. The mobile library will be an ideal  marketing  and publicity vehicle to promote reading awareness, library and information services and related activities in the North West communities.


Why establish a mobile library service

o To take Library and Information Services to Communities who have no access to the service.
o To promote reading and Library Services.

Where is the mobile library bus going to be used

The Mobile Library Bus will be used in the following ways:

o Mobile Library Services- It is going to be used to deliver library and information services to rural areas and farm schools where there are no community libraries,

o Marketing Tool- Community Libraries can use the mobile library as a tool to market existing libraries that are not utilised fully,

o Exhibitions- It can be used as an exhibition stand especially when the Department is participating in exhibition shows,

o Festivals and Events- in celebrating national and international days especially when the events are celebrated in areas where there are no libraries at all.

o During the opening of new community libraries- As a marketing tool to inform and make the community aware of libraries that will be opening in their communities during sod turning and library opening events.

What are services available in the mobile library?

o Information Communication Technologies- the community will have access to ICT to allow them to access the internet and search for information online.

o Toy Library Services will be available for toddlers and children. A range of toys, games, puzzles and aids will be available for this group.

o Reference materials and various categories of collection to meet the needs of the community.
