Eight drivers were arrested for drunken driving and 16 unlicensed vehicles were impounded for unroadworthiness by traffic authorities in a special joint operation between the North West Traffic Authorities and South African Police Service (SAPS).
A lady driver was amongst those arrested during the operation that mainly focused on drunken driving on Friday night. They have been detained at different police stations and will appear in court on Monday, 09, 2012.

MEC for Human Settlements Public Safety and Liaison Nono Maloyi has expressed concern over the increasing number of deaths on the main roads of the province. The concern follows the death of 17 people over the past weekend, in three separate accidents in the Bojanala District alone.
Two of the accidents happened on the N4 and the third one on the R24, 25 km outside Rustenburg towards Magaliesburg. According to Police and traffic officials all three accidents were head on collision and it appears that speed was the main course.
