THE TIME TO END TAXI VIOLENCE IS NOW”, SAYS MEC LEHARI IN CLOSING PROVINCIAL LEKGOTLA

The violence that characterises the taxi industry should end and should end now. This is the message from the MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management Sello Lehari. He was speaking on the second and last day of the Provincial Taxi Lekgotla held in Rustenburg. The lekgotla is part of build-up to the National taxi lekgotla to be held next week in Gauteng. The Provincial was opened by Minister Fikile Mbalula yesterday and was closed by Premier Professor Job Mokgoro. MEC Lehari decried the morass that the taxi industry found itself in.

“This gloom had been part of the industry for far too long. It is now time to end the senseless killings. The time to end violence is now. it is now time to end illegal operators and end lawlessness”, said MEC Lehari.

The Taxi lekgotla comes during the October Transport month which MEC Lehari is leading jointly with Public Works and Roads MEC Gaoage Molapisi.

MEC Lehari expressed optimism that the lekgotla will yield expected outcomes.

“We are hoping long after this lekgotla, the industry shall be stabilised. We are hopeful there shall be calm of everlasting life in the taxi industry. We are mindful that these shall not happen simply because we hope so or wish so. But we are sure the destiny beckons us and with determination we shall arrive”, said MEC Lehari.

MEC Lehari acknowledged the team that worked hard to ensure lekgotla is a success especially the academics from North West University and other institutions.
“I will like to sincerely thank Ms Karen Visser, Mr Keletsamaile Motatsa from the North West University, Advocate Mpete, Mr Ramodise Tsolo, Ms Ouma Ledwaba from TETA (Transport Education Training Authority), and Ms Funeka Nyaqela from Bravo. We appreciate the time and wisdom you shared with the Lekgotla”, MEC Lehari emphasised.
