Three women were burnt beyond recognition when two vehicles collided head-on along the Ganyesa and Vryburg Road in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District. The vehicles burst into flames immediately after the collision, making it difficult to rescue passengers who were trapped. The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari passed condolences to the bereaved families.

“We would like to pass our deepest condolences to the families of all the deceased and wish them strength during this difficult time. It is difficult to accept the passing of a loved one. It is even more so when the passing is as tragic as this one”, said MEC Lehari.

The accident took place around midday on Saturday (24/10/2020) when the sedans travelling on opposite directions collided.

Four other passengers also died at the scene of the accident bringing a total to seven; four of whom are women. A twenty nine (29) old woman who survived with her three months old baby girl were rushed to the hospital.

“Sadly, it has been discovered that the baby passed on as they arrived at the hospital. May they rest in eternal peace”, said MEC Lehari.

Meanwhile, the culpable homicide case is being investigated.
MEC Lehari cautioned motorists to be extra careful as we approach the festive period. The 2020 October Transport Month Roadblocks led by joint law enforcement officers including the stop and search operation are coincidentally, already underway in various parts of the Province. And this fatal accident unfortunately interrupts the otherwise calm and incident free #OTM2020.
